The time has come to close down another calendar year, say goodbye to 2018, and welcome in 2019. I encourage you to embrace this week and finish 2018 on a positive note. Our students will be leaving Friday and heading to a wide variety of situations. We can anticipate that this might cause anxiety in some of our students. Continue focusing on the positive interactions that we have been working on this entire month of December. i look forward to sharing a time of fun and festivities on Wednesday morning. Embrace the week and the season!
Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. "Almost every student you meet may be fighting a battle you know nothing about. Stop. Think. Then respond accordingly." - Robert John Meehan
As we continue our final stretch to our 2 week break. I have been blown away from the student stories that many of you have shared with me. Please continue to focus on those positive interactions and listen to those stories. As you encounter students and learn about the battles they might be fighting please don't think I am asking you to be "lenient". What I am asking you to do is to respond in a manner that is appropriate for THAT student. Here are the STAFF NOTES for this week. "Every child you pass in the hall has a story that needs to be heard. Maybe you are the one meant to hear it." - Bethany Hill
Last week I told you that my goal last week was to greet as many kids as possible by name. I can't begin to tell you how many doors this small act opened. I had several short but meaningful conversations with students last week. Situations where I might have just smiled or said hello to a student turned into me genuinely asking the student a question. Many of the students couldn't wait to tell me what they were doing during the weekend or what they did the previous weekend. I realized that all I needed to do was let them know that I truly wanted to hear their story and they couldn't wait to share. My challenge for you is to engage in a conversation with a few students that maybe you don't usually converse with. Invite them to share "their story" with you. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. |
