I hope you were all able to enjoy a slightly extended weekend. This week would be a great week to spend time with your Trojan Time students going over their grades and coaching them up on some strategies to get caught up if that is needed.
For me it was a great weekend that has extended into Sunday evening. Sorry for the un-inspirational post. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. Big week coming up for all of us. Just a reminder that as we go through the week, do what you can to take care of yourself. There seems to be some colds and other junk going around. Drink a lot of water, get good sleep, and find a strategy to help relieve stress.
Let me know if you have any questions on how conferences will work. Don't forget that on Tuesday the PTA will be providing dinner between the end of school and the start of conferences. Here are you STAFF NOTES for this week. "The key is this: Meet today's problems with today's strength. Don't start tackling tomorrow's problems until tomorrow. You don't have tomorrow's strength yet. You simply have enough for today."
- Max Lucado I remind myself of this often. There have been many times that I've used "today's strength" on tomorrow's problems only to find that tomorrow's problems never come to fruition. Don't get caught making a list of problems to come, instead use your strength to concur what is front of you in the present. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. "Trauma-informed education is a journey, not a checklist. There is no magical program that's going to fix kids because we're not fixing kids. We're supporting kids in being successful."
- Mathew Portell This quote is about "trauma-informed" education, BUT I was particularly drawn to the end of the quote. "we're not fixing kids. We're supporting kids...". Many of us in education are "fixers" and it is very frustrating to work tirelessly to fix something and see it not work over and over again. Whether its behavior in the hallway, students not doing their work, or students just not grasping a concept, its very easy to become burned out looking for that magic trick. It's not there! If there was a magic trick, we wouldn't have jobs. We have to realize that every student is unique and what works for one student, won't for another. In fact, what works one day for a student might not work the next time. My challenge for you this week is to remind yourself to support your students and not try to fix them. Take it a day at a time and do your best to learn as much as you can about your students and what supports they need. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week! |
