"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before." - Herodotus
FINAL FOUR!!! With both Michigan reaching the Final Four and all us being down to our Final Four days of school, I felt that this was an appropriate title for this week's blog. I love when things align. As we approach this week please consider the message that Herodotus gives us in the above quote. We can anticipate that this week will no doubt present us all with challenges in focus and behaviors. I challenge you to meet those challenges by "exerting...more vigorous efforts than ever before". We (staff and students) all function so much better in a busy, engaging, structured environment. Plus, I don't know about you but I find that the days fly by when I have a large "to do" list to work from each day. Set you and your students up for a successful last week before break by having the week set and ready to roll. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I at least wanted to throw this out there to if anything reaffirm this to myself. Let's have a great week! Here are your STAFF NOTES. It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe. — Muhammad Ali
9 DAYS TO GO.... As we enter in to this final two weeks before spring break take some time to "empty your shoes" and dump out the small "pebbles". Whether the pebble is something from your personal life or something from work, it is important to realize the impact that it can make on you as you begin this final climb to spring break. I know that I was able to stay Friday afternoon and empty some of these pebbles out of my shoes in preparation for the next two weeks. I feel like I was really able to enjoy this past weekend and now I'm refreshed, recharged, and ready to attack these 9 days. Last week my challenge was to identify one small thing you can focus on doing differently. This week my challenge is to identify a pebble that you can remove or resolve to help make the climb ahead not so stressful. Here our your STAFF NOTES for this week! "If the plan doesn't work, change the plan but never the goal" -Unknown
We have started with and kept a vision for what we expect things to be like. February into March is always the hardest part of the year. When looking at data, the norm is that behaviors and ODRs escalate during this time of the year significantly. This is not atypical. My challenge for you is to think about one small thing you can do different in the next 3 weeks, all while keeping the same vision and goal in mind. We have challenged our students with the PBIS March to Spring Break incentive as a building wide initiative. My challenge for you is, what is something you are going to do different, knowing that this is the most challenging part of the year. We might not always be able to control how kids will act, but we CAN control how we respond. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week! "If I had nine hours to chop down a tree, I would spend the first six sharpening my axe." - Abraham Lincoln
There are 4 weeks of school until spring break. At first glance it seems extremely intimidating. When I counted the weeks I panicked and started thinking about everything that I have to do and began doing things just to get them done. When I came across this quote from Abraham Lincoln I interpreted it as a message of being intentional and prepared. As we look at the 4 week in front of us, I challenge you to think ahead, be prepared, and do all things as intentional as possible. I'm excited that Derek and I will be in the building everyday this week. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. |
