Hang in there everyone...It appears we are in for more HOT weather. The temperature looks to be in the high 80's on Monday and Tuesday, and back to a more seasonal norm of upper 60's starting Wednesday.
This will be the last week of September! This month has gone by extremely fast. My hats are off to all of you for the work that has been done thus far. I really have been blown away by the effort that is being made to foster those teacher-student relationships and the communication between all staff to help students who might be struggling. I hope that you were all able to stay cool this past weekend. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. "Children need at least one person in their life who thinks the sun rises and sets on them, someone who delights in their existence and loves them unconditionally." - Pam Leo
We have been focusing as a district and a building on creating those relationships with our kids. Bob motivated and challenged us to reach out to those kids who might struggle to feel connected, the kids who have experienced consistent trauma. I have been very impressed with all you and your efforts in reaching out and doing just that. When one student was asked to share a positive thing from this year so far he replied, "I get a fresh start everyday". When students feel that way, you will be able to get miles out of that student down the road. We are all getting to the point in the year, just past the "honeymoon" stage, when you are probably starting to identify students that you sense conflict on the horizon. My challenge for this week is to identify one of those students and "re-establish" your relationship with that student. Seek out an opportunity to connect with them. It might be just letting them know that you are giving them a fresh start. Thank you for ALL that you are doing! Here are your Staff Notes for this week... Typically I find my myself beginning to get anxious as a Sunday night approaches. This weekend has been great! I went apple picking with my family, Michigan won, the Lions even pulled one out, and my fantasy team is doing well. It has been a nice end cap to the week. As I sit and begin to reflect on last week and plan for this upcoming week, I'm not sure I've been more excited for a week of school. I can't begin to tell you how nice last week was. I feel like we are off to a GREAT start and I hope you are feeling the same.
Let's make sure our kids know what a great week we had last week. I think it would go a long way if we each took 2 minutes and shared with our kids something that happened at school last week that we are excited about. My hope is that we can carry the positive momentum we built last week into this week! I apologize about the length of staff notes this week, but I want to make sure that these important announcements are getting to you. Click HERE for this week's staff notes. Thank you for ALL that you do! Well...it's here! I hope you are all getting ready to enjoy a nice relaxing Labor Day weekend surrounded by people who are important to you. I'm just finishing up some final things in the office and then I plan to go spend the weekend with my family. I just wanted to thank you all for the great week. It has been enjoyable just scratching the surface of getting to know you.
My hope is that as we move into this coming week we remind ourselves that building those relationships with our kids begins right away. I challenge you as you begin to connect with kids and build those relationships, that you reach out and make a targeted intentional effort to connect with some of those kids that we know struggle. The kids who carry some extra baggage, have a less than stellar reputation, or struggle socially. September flies by and is sometimes viewed as a "wash". I hope that as a staff we recognize that September will lay the foundation for what lies ahead. Lets build the type of foundation in which we can build anything we want to. With that...Here are your weekly STAFF NOTES. |
