Dang! It is COLD outside. Please make sure that you read through the staff notes carefully this week (and every week). They are a little more lengthy than usual. If you meet with me for mid-year meetings, the schedule will be out Monday evening. I'm looking forward to a great last week of the the 1st semester!
Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. I apologize for the delay of staff notes being posted. Unfortunately this weekend, I had no internet to complete and post the notes. This resulted in lots of reading and early bedtimes in our house (which might prove to actually be a positive thing). Sorry for the delay.
Please enjoy your "short" STAFF NOTES As fast as the first half of the school year went, I feel like our much anticipated break went faster. I can't believe that it is Sunday evening and I'm sitting at my kitchen table typing these staff notes. Even though it went quickly, I feel rested and ready to get started again in my routine (whatever that means).
Last Friday I was driving down Lincoln (slightly over the 55 mph speed limit) at 5 am going to my spin class and out of no where a deer decided it was a good time to cross. A collision ensued and instantly I was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the police and a tow truck. It took 40 minutes before either showed up. While I waited I was listening to ESPN radio and they were discussing the Indianapolis Colts. The team they say is "ahead of schedule" with a quarterback coming off a year long injury and a new first year head coach. In an interview with Andrew Luck (QB) he attributed their success to, "Ignoring the results and focusing on the process". He elaborated further and discussed that as a team they try to get at least 1% better everyday. Sitting in the dark on the side of the road gives you time to think and as I thought about this I couldn't help but think how sensible this seemed. Sometimes I find myself so caught up in the final results that I quickly become overwhelmed and burned out. What would happen if we as educators focused on the process, tried to be 1% better that we were yesterday, and encouraged our students to do the same? The last thing Andrew said was, "the results will take care of themselves". As we enter this winter stretch lets focus on the process and let the results take care of themselves.
