It's hard to believe but this upcoming week is the last week of September. We have 3 weeks completed and I would say that it is safe to say we are through the honeymoon. I'm going to take a moment to be vulnerable with all of you...at the end of last week I was spent! I found myself getting frustrated with LITTLE things that were not within my control. I've spent the weekend trying to hit the rest button and prepare for the upcoming week. My guess is, if we are all being honest, I'm not the only one.
"Be yourself, love your students, have fun, laugh with your kids, be spontaneous, break a few rules, and hang in there" - Retired teacher of 33 years My advice for this week is to DO THIS! Our students are going to feed directly off of us. Our actions, our attitude, and our body language. Let's set the tone, and our students will follow. Here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. Tonight's blog is going to be short and sweet. I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of the way that we are starting the year. Watching what all of you are doing each day inspires me when I have to wake up so early in the morning. Just this past week I watched you go out of the way to develop relationships in the hallway, get students out of their seats and engage with each other, and be flexible to meet the individual needs of students. THANK YOU! I know it can be exhausting doping these things, but the rewards are immeasurable! Keep it up and don't stop.
With that here are your STAFF NOTES for this week! Good Morning Everyone!
Sorry for the delay in my post. I'm still working on getting back in the groove of things. I won't use much of your time this morning. I did want to share one quote from an 8th grade student to his mother after this past week. "Mom it's crazy, everyone is in a really good mood and people are being nice to each other. I'm sure it will change though at some point". Our goal for the week is to NOT let it change! Keep up the good work in the hallways and continue building those relationships. Derek and I saw a LOT of really good things happening in the halls and classrooms last week. Don't make those things "first week" stuff, make it the NORM. With that...here are your STAFF NOTES for this week. Well...here we go again!
I hope this entry finds you rested and full of the first day butterflies. I can't wait to have all of you and the kids back in the building starting tomorrow. I don't know if I have ever had a year that I've been more excited for. My hope is that we can take the positive momentum that we ended with and continue to roll forward! I just know that we are going to get off to a very solid start. I expect that this first week will be full of students that are happy to be here and willing to follow the expectations we have set. We all know that doesn't last forever, I hope by now most of you realize that I am a realist. Mike Tyson once said, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". So my challenge for you this week is to get out in the halls meet and greet as many students as possible. Know that there will be setbacks, but the stronger our relationships are and the more information we know about our kids will help us get through the "punch" that WILL come at some point. Truly, I am SO happy that I get to work with all of you! With that here are your first STAFF NOTES of the 2018-19 school year! |
